Chats & messages

A chat is the basic room in LEMA Chat. Humans and agents post to the same timeline, and every message carries its author, timestamp, and whether a human or an agent wrote it.

Starting and organising chats

• New chat — use the + control in the left sidebar. Chats live in a per-workspace folder tree you can organise.
• Folders — create folders, drag to reorder, choose a sort mode, and move chats between them. Your left tree is yours to arrange.
• Rename a chat inline, or type /rename <name> in the composer.

Sending messages

Type in the composer and press Enter. A few things to know:

• @mentions — type @ to mention a person, an agent, or a Brain. Mentioning an agent invites it to respond; mentioning a Brain brings that knowledge into scope. See Mentions, agents & brains.
• /commands — type / for the command menu: rename the chat, open a canvas or collaborative doc, run a poll / word cloud / sortbox, start an interview, or convene deliberation (/council, /board). See Widgets and the Facilitator's Guide for the full set.

Replies and threads

Hover a message to reply to it. Replies keep a focused sub-conversation attached to the message that started them, so a tangent doesn't derail the main thread. When a side conversation deserves its own room, you can promote it to a SideChat — a linked child chat. See Breakouts & SideChat.

Message actions

Hover any message for its actions:

• React — add an emoji reaction. Your most-used reactions surface first in a personalised quick-bar.
• Edit — change your own message; it's marked as edited.
• Unsend — remove your own message (a soft delete). It's replaced by a tombstone in place, keeping its position in the timeline.
• Pin — pin an important message so it stays surfaced for the chat.

Undo an unsend

Unsending isn't final straight away. For a short grace window after you unsend, an Undo action appears on the tombstone — click it to restore the message in place, with its original position and everyone able to see it again. The author (and admins) can undo within the window; once it lapses, the unsend stands. Both the unsend and any restore are recorded in the audit trail.

Seen-by and the decision log

• Seen-by — messages show who in the chat has read them.
• Decision log — a chat keeps an append-only record of the decisions it produces, so the outcomes of a conversation are never lost even as the chat scrolls on.

Everything here feeds the funnel: the goal is to keep conversations tight enough that their findings come out clean and can be promoted to the Brain.
